TO ALL MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNIST MOVEMENT:

FOR A COMMUNIST UNITED-FRONT

DEAR COMRADES,

Following on previously failed attempts to restore unity to the communist movement, a new attempt was started on January 11th, 1998 when a number of Communists from the Stalin Society took the initiative in starting a campaign for the formation of a 'Communist United-Front'.  This Campaign is now run by the National Committee for Marxist-Leninist Unity, (NCMLU)

The struggle for a Communist United-Front constitutes the first step towards the future, single communist party, opposed to opportunism and revisionism and guided by Marxism-Leninism. The need for a Communist United-front is based on the recognition that without a united communist movement the working class will never be able to overthrow the bourgeoisie and start the transition to socialism.  Therefore all talk about revolution and socialism unconnected to the struggle for a united communist movement represents empty petty-bourgeois chatter and daydreaming.

The struggle for a united communist movement, beginning with the formation of a Communist United-Front is the most important task facing Communists at the present time. The communist movement today is divided by many issues, but the most important issue, in view of the many divisions in our movement, is between those who support the need for the Communist United-front and those who oppose this struggle

TO PUT IT SIMPLY
: FOR OR AGAINST THE COMMUNIST UNITED-FRONT IS THE BASIC ISSUE CONFRONTING COMMUNISTS TODAY, BOTH NATIONALLY AND INTERNATIONALLY.

It is impossible to remain neutral on such a basic class question, which consequently means that whatever position an individual, group, or party adopts on this question, reveals, in the most direct way, which class interest those who claim to be communists and Marxist-Leninists are really serving.

Because the struggle for a united communist movement, opposed to opportunism and revisionism, begins with the formation of a Communist United-Front, it is possible to say that only those who are supporting the struggle for this united-front are serving the class interest of the proletariat. Those who are supporting the campaign for a united communist movement against opportunism and revisionism are the true political representatives of the working class and the struggle for socialism.

In view of this it is clear that those who oppose the campaign for a unified communist movement, those who reject the struggle for the Communist United-Front, indeed, those who undermine this struggle in any way, are actually serving petty-bourgeois class interests. In other words the struggle for a unified communist movement and, in the first place the struggle for the Communist United-Front has enemies.

This is to say, if we leave aside the bourgeois security services, the concealed political representatives of the petty-bourgeoisie, who masquerade as communists in the working class movement, are precisely those who resist, or oppose the struggle for a Communist United-Front and are therefore holding back the unification of the communist movement.  The question must be asked why do such individuals and factions oppose the struggle for communist unity, which begins with the Communist United-Front?

The most important reason why the petty-bourgeoisie and those under its influence oppose the struggle for a communist United-Front is because the tendency of the petty-bourgeois individual is to serve his own interests, not the interest of the working class. The petty-bourgeois places their interests before the interests of the working class.

This concentration on serving their own interests forms the main obstacle to achieving communist unity. Unless these elements can subordinate their own interests to the interests of the working class, they will remain obstacles and enemies of the struggle for a united communist movement.

The struggle for a united communist movement, which begins as a struggle for the communist united-front, is, in the first place, a struggle against the petty-bourgeois class and their influence in the communist movement.  The main contradiction at work in the communist movement is that between those who serve working class interests and those who, in a concealed manner, serve petty-bourgeois interests.

Those who want to serve the interest of the working class and socialism, those who support the struggle against disunity in the communist movement, those want to support the struggle for the Communist United-Front, and fight the petty-bourgeois opposition to it, all those who regard themselves as Marxist-Leninists can contact the Campaign for Marxist-Leninist Unity via www.oneparty.org.uk
